The Organisation
You will be working at a 172-bed Level 1 tertiary teaching hospital that services approximately 80,000 people. The hospital provides a range of acute services in emergency, maternity, intensive care, rehabilitation, community services, psychiatric in and out patient care, palliative care, renal dialysis and chemotherapy services. The hospital also provides medical imaging and pathology services.
The hospital has a number of affiliations with major Victorian universities to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate Medical, Nursing and Allied health education, clinical placements and training.
The Oncology service includes a Cancer Care Coordinator, Prostate Nurse and McGrath Breast Care Nurse and junior medical support and an 8-chair Chemotherapy Day Unit.
The Job
Demand for oncology services is growing and this hospital is seeking to engage a second Medical Oncologist
Working in a collaborative team environment, the Staff Specialist Oncologist will provide exceptional oncology care through inpatient, outpatient and day services
The hospital has recently joined the Victorian Regional Clinical Trials Network, providing scope for trials participation that is expected to grow
Key responsibilities of the role include review of oncology patients presenting to the emergency department, management of inpatients, conducting outpatient clinics and management of patients receiving anti-cancer therapy
Liaison with general medicine colleagues and hospital staff specialists for collaboration on patient care is an essential facet of this role as well as participation in departmental meetings and reviews as required
Initiation of research and development projects will be available

Requirements
Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia (or ability to gain registration) as a specialist medical practitioner
Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (or equivalent and ability to gain FRACP in the specialty of oncology)
