The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) located at the North West Regional Hospital is a CICM level 2 facility and is accredited for basic, elective and foundation components of ICU training with ventilatory, circulatory and renal support. It is an 8 bed facility with 1 isolation bed, with beds dedicated to Coronary Care, Intensive Care, Surgical High Dependency and Medical High Dependency. Patients are referred from the Department of Emergency Medicine, within the NWRH or from other hospitals. The unit is complimented with trained ICU nursing staff and junior medical officers. The ICU also provides high level intensive care to the adjoining North West Private Hospital.
North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital both have busy emergency and general medical departments. Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Paediatrics are primarily located at the NWRH with outpatient services at both sites. There are anaesthetic services provided at both sites however primarily based at NWRH. A busy general orthopaedic and general surgical service is based at NWRH with the MCH providing predominately day surgery cases. There are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services many of which are provided by visiting specialists from Launceston General Hospital, Royal Hobart Hospital and major hospitals in Victoria.
The North West Cancer Centre (NWCC) operates as a branch of the Northern Tasmania Cancer Service and it is linked with the Holman Centre in Launceston. The NWCC provides integrated oncology services to patients who live in North West Tasmania. Onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.
The North West Private Hospital is co-located with the North West Regional Hospital and this facilitates private practice for many of the region's specialists.
You will provide specialist services to the Department of Critical Care including diagnosis, treatment and care for patients in the Tasmanian Health Service (THS)–North West (North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital).
You will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels and work in a unit that values innovation and has a strong culture of mutual respect.

The North West Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania is located on the campus of the NWRH and the MCH. The Tasmanian Health Service – North West participates in a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program with the Rural Clinical School.

Fellow of the College of Intensive Care Medicine (FCICM) or equivalent.
Eligible for Specialist or Limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Recent experience in an acute hospital setting.
Current Driver’s License.
