The Organisation

This hospital is the major centre in the Midwest district of WA. It has 66 hospital beds for acute medical, surgical, paediatric and maternity patients. The hospital provides a 24-hour Emergency Department. It also provides a range of services including chemotherapy, renal dialysis, a hospital at home visiting service, medical imaging, pathology and same day surgery. 

The Surgical Department is a small and busy operating department offering high quality, efficient surgical experience.  The Day Procedures and Theatres area provide consultant surgical and anaesthetic services for the specialties of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, urology, orthopaedics, plastics, ENT, emergency and trauma.  

The Job 

• Surgical Registrars will be responsible for the clinical care of patients under the supervision of senior medical staff

• You will be responsible for attending to patients in order of medical urgency, taking a history and full medical examinations and arranging appropriate investigations for new admissions

• Assisting with surgical procedures as required; managing medical conditions according to acceptable clinical standards under supervision of consultants 

• Collaborating with other Medical and nursing staff and multidisciplinary team members to facilitate patient management and communication with family, outside medical practitioners, and/or community services

• There are three surgical registrars in total, covering a 1:3 on call roster

Requirements  

• Registered or eligible for General registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for the Competent Authority pathway 

• Applicants with at least 6 months surgical experience are preferred
