Launceston General Hospital is a Workplace Based Assessment centre
The Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is a 400 bed hospital with a purpose built Intensive Care Unit (ICU) that has 11 fully staffed beds (expandable to 13). The ICU provides tertiary level care to a population of 250,0000 with approximately 1000 admissions per year with a general case mix and approximately equal surgical medical ratio. It is the major referral centre for North and North West Tasmania.
LGH is accredited as a general training unit (C12 pre-2014) by CICM and for completion of the ICU requirement of training for both ACEM and ANZCA trainees.
You will expand your skills, knowledge, and confidence as an ICU Registrar.
You will have the opportunity to be exposed to and gain skills in a wide range of investigations, interventions and procedures including: all modalities of extra corporal life support including CRRT, ECCO2R and ECMO Vascular access including complex / tunnelled access; Right Heart Studies; Bronchoscopy; Ultrasound; Echocardiography (including DDU Supervisor Intensivist).
There are opportunities to complete rotations in Anaesthesia, Medicine and Emergency Medicine. As well rotations to related specialities or participation in the Tasmanian Aeromedical and Retrieval Service for suitably experienced applicants.
Involvement in research is encouraged and the unit is a participant in many multicentre as well as local trials. Well supported by the Clifford Craig Foundation, there are research grants available to successful applicants, including trainees.
