This Health Centre was established in 1991 and aims to treat all patients with dignity and respect. They are committed to the promotion of health, wellbeing and disease prevention without discrimination. The specific goal is to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples with high quality, appropriate, efficient and effective primary health care and related services.
We are seeking a GP locum to assist with the high level of chronic disease in the community and assist with a focus on supporting the team to improve health for the women in the community.
The Health Centre has 3 consulting rooms and 2 emergency rooms with separate waiting rooms allowing for flexibility when catering for cultural requirements.
The region is a voluntary dry community located 320 km north-east of Alice Springs. It is the cultural heartland with art an important expression of the people’s connection with the land. Local artists are said to “exude a complex and progressive approach to depicting the traditional knowledge of dreaming and country through the translation of water holes and soakages, bush medicines and bush tuckers, mountains, sand hills and ant hills”. Their artworks retain the heritage and feature the cultural history and values of local lore.
You will be working for a Remote Aboriginal Primary Health care centre.
The clinic provides 24 hour emergency care as well as normal consulting hours.
You will ideally have experience working in Aboriginal Medical Services
GP experience in NT or Kimberly regions is highly regarded.
Familiarity with Communicare is an advantage
We are looking for a General Practitioner to undertake 3-4 weeks on site, with the goal to also provide some offsite support.
This is an ASAP start.
At present we are unable to take a GP from declared COVID hot spots of NSW and Victoria.
The General Practitioners do not participate in oncall – however, you are free to join in if you wish, however this will not be required to or paid to participate in afterhours activities.
The ideal candidate is a vocationally registered GP who has had NT or Kimberly experience and understands the unique challenges of working in a remote community.
On offer is $1250 per day and includes a paid travel day at each end of the contract.

The successful GP will be asked to complete aboriginal health checks and work in partnership with our Chronic Disease Coordinator.
