The Organisation
This Local Health District provides public health services to the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast regions of New South Wales. Care and support is provided across twenty seven hospitals; eleven multipurpose centres; forty three community health clinics as well as services in mental, children, oral, and drugs and alcohol.

The Emergency Department is one of the busiest tertiary referral centres in Australia and the only trauma referral centre in NSW outside of Sydney.
Specialist staff are focused on meeting the needs of acutely ill and injured patients, providing care for both adult and paediatric patients throughout the region.
Connected to the Emergency Department is an eight bed short stay unit for emergency patients requiring further observation and assessment.
The department is accredited with the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine for both adult and paediatric emergency medicine training.
The Job
Multiple openings are available for Emergency Medicine Registrars, from Provisional through to late stage Advanced Training.
You will be working in a major referral centre that is ACEM accredited for 24 months Advanced Training.
The combined Adult and Paediatric emergency department is supported by a team of well trained, highly committed consultant emergency physicians, trainees, nurses and administration staff.
Last year, the emergency department saw approximately 80,000 presentations, 30% of which were children.
The Hospital is a Level 6, tertiary referral, major trauma and teaching hospital, servicing a population of more than 800,000 people.
You will be working in the busiest Emergency Department in the state, with a primary aeromedical retrieval service that serves as the main teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle Joint Medical Program.
The Hospital has approximately 650 beds and is the largest hospital in the district.

The dedicated Directors of Emergency Medicine and our Medical Education and Training Coordinator will support you in all your training requirements.
You have 4 hours paid protected teaching time per week and one full day a year of teaching off site led by the DEMTs annually.

Requirements
MBBS or equivalent
Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
Completion of at least two postgraduate years with a genuine interest in Emergency Medicine.
Significant experience in an Emergency Department
Ability and willingness to work at the facilities within the Network to deliver patient care and preparedness and ability to participate in a 24 hour shift work roster.
