The Organisation
This hospital and health service provides multi-disciplinary health services to a growing population of over 46,000 in SE Victoria. In response to an increase in population growth in the region over the last ten years, the hospital is continually increasing its capacity to service the needs of the community.
This hospital incorporates a long-established hospital with 51 acute beds, 20 sub-acute/rehabilitation beds, HDU, modern theatre suite, emergency department, 5 bed short stay unit, palliative care and maternity services. Day services include a 9 bed Day Procedure Unit, a newly built 10 chair Oncology/Medical Ambulatory Day Unit and a 9 chair Dialysis Unit. In addition to acute care,
The hospital also provides core services through a 90 bed Aged Care facility, full-range of Allied Health Services, Medical Outpatient Services, Home Based Services, including Hospital in the Home, Community Health and a CBD campus offering the community easy access to Maternity Care and a selection of Medical Imaging Services.
The Emergency Department provides trauma and emergency healthcare to the region. The department has been expanded to include a 5 bed Short Stay Unit and an Emergency Nurse Practitioner operating out of a fast track treatment area. Medical staffing is comprised of SMO’s with support from 3 GP Registrars, 3 HMO’s and 3 interns on rotation. Additional support in
Anaesthetics and Obstetrics is provided by the GP VMO community.
The Job
The Emergency HMO will provide patient assessment (history taking, physical examination, diagnostic formulation, appropriate investigations, consult and refer).
You will be responsible for patient management (care planning – curative and symptomatic, providing continuity of care from admission to discharge, frequent and regular patient reviews, discharge planning, referral for ongoing care, end-of-life care).
Emergency care (assessment and prioritisation, participation in Code Blue responses, participation in the MET response team, Advanced Life Support, emergency patient transfers).
Emergency HMO’s perform procedural skills (pre-procedure care, principles of informed consent, minor/ward procedures and assisting with major/theatre procedures, post-procedure care).
Participate in regular performance reviews based on agreed learning objectives with the supervising staff specialist.
Effective teamwork with internal and external health care providers.

Requirements
Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (or equivalent)
Ability to obtain registration (or limited medical registration) with the Medical Board of Australia. Registration with the Medical Board of Australia is required prior to commencement.
Ability to obtain appropriate working rights in Australia
AMC parts 1 & 2 passed
Minimum level 3 supervision & PESCI pass rate
At minimum 4 years full time postgraduate experience in clinical hospital medicine, including extensive experience in Emergency Medicine and General Practice.
Australian health care experience is highly regarded.
Competence in advanced life support techniques.
