The medical services across the North West region of Tasmania are based primarily at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) in Burnie and at the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) in Latrobe, close to Devonport.
The North West Rural Clinical School of the University of Tasmania is located on the campus of the NWRH and the MCH. The Tasmanian Health Service – North West participates in a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program with the Rural Clinical School.
The Mental Health Service incorporates Inpatient Mental Health, Adult Community Mental Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health, Older Persons Mental Health and Crisis and Assessment Treatment Team Mental Health Services. The Inpatient service has 19 beds inclusive of a 3 bed High Care Unit. The unit predominantly caters to adult clients with serious mental illness but also supports clients from the Older Persons Mental Health Service and occasionally Adolescents. Adult Community Mental Health provides an outpatient consultancy service from bases at Devonport and Burnie.
The North West Private Hospital is co-located with the North West Regional Hospital and this facilitates private practice for many of the region’s specialists.
This position will be attractive to a skilled and motivated medical professional who is driven by a passion to improve healthcare.
You will have experience with Adult Mental Health.
You will be working in a regional Health Service and rostered across two hospitals that service a population of 116,000.
It is anticipated you will have involvement in the delivery of the undergraduate education program with the Rural Clinical School.
There may be an opportunity to be appointed to a University academic position. The seniority of the University appointment would be negotiated separately with the University.

Current Specialist or Limited registration or eligible for same with the Medical Board of Australia.
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or equivalent.
