The Organisation
This health service is geographically the largest of the seven regions in the largest country health service in Australia, and covers 771,276 sq km. The hospital is a 100-bed inpatient facility that houses an emergency department and provides a range of services including an oncology unit, obstetric services, maintenance renal dialysis unit, paediatric services, psychiatric unit, palliative care unit (which includes accommodation units for cancer patients) and areas for allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational health, audiology, dietetics, podiatry and social work. This health service handles almost as many emergency presentations in the metropolitan area combined and sees over 40,000 annual presentations.
The hospital has a 20-bed maternity unit with 3 birthing suites and a low-intervention family birthing suite, and Mother Earth Room. It is a very busy unit with an average of 800 deliveries per annum. The hospital is just short of 600km from Perth and a hub for the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia, with excellent shopping, school and recreational opportunities, a gateway to explore the outback and the southern coastline.
The Job

Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultants are responsible for providing specialist clinical care services to patients across the region.

You will supervise, mentor and educate candidates for the diploma of Obstetrics and any trainee medical staff and hospital service medical practitioners who are providing clinical care to Obstetric or Gynaecological patients.

You will collaborate with Maternity Ward Clinical Nurse Specialist and Nursing staff in liaising with patients, family, community services and other representatives as required.

You will lead and contribute to the development of ambulatory gynaecology procedures and services.

You are expected to participate in policy development, review for clinical governance and audit, research and work collaboratively with other clinical practitioners.

O&G Consultants will have the chance to travel across the region and be assigned to work in the beautiful affiliated regional sites.

Requirements

Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)

Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent
