You will provide a high standard of surgical care and have the opportunity to treat a varied, challenging caseload. You will be required to spend nights away from home on a regular basis, along with short periods of outreach within the region, on a regular basis.
In addition you will provide leadership, supervision and education to trainee Medical Officers and participate in the on call roster.
The surgical team includes a second Consultant Surgeon, a Service Registrar, Resident Medical Officer and Intern.
It is anticipated you will have Laparoscopic and Gastrointestinal endoscopy skills, as well as experience in surgical management of trauma. Experience in basic orthopaedics and an understanding of Aboriginal Health issues is desirable.

The 60-bed hospital sees 25,000 Emergency Department presentations per year and the case mix, including acuity and activity is highly varied. Services provided include General Surgery, General Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics/Gynaecology, Mental Health and is supported by other visiting specialists.
The hospital underwent an 8-year redevelopment providing residents access to a high quality, modern health service to match the region’s growing demands. The major upgrade included new operating theatres, consulting rooms for visiting specialists, a public dental surgery, refurbished maternity unit and an expanded $10.4 million Emergency Department which doubled to 15 acute bays.
You will be living in the most northern and tropical region of Western Australia. Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons (RACS) or equivalent.
