The Organisation
This university teaching hospital has 343 beds and provides a broad range of services in all specialty areas to the local urban population as well as serving as a referral centre to the whole Top End of the Northern Territory (NT), with a catchment population of over 250,000.
The hospital provides acute and complex elective surgical services, including general surgery, paediatric, burns, and thoracic as well as elements of plastic, urology, acute neurosurgery and vascular surgery. The hospital has a high emergency load, a significant proportion of Indigenous patients and a busy and productive surgical department.
The Job
- As General Surgeon with Thoracic or Paediatric interest, you will work as part of the surgical team providing timely and high-quality surgical services to the local population
- The position offers excellent exposure to a wide range of surgical conditions and the opportunity to utilise your full range of surgical skills
- You will participate in research, educational and professional development, quality assurance activities, peer review practices and continuing Medical Education
- You will also participate in audit, risk management activities and research as well as take part in the on-call roster as required

Requirements
- Registration or eligibility for registration as a Specialist in General Surgery with the Australian Health Practitioner Registration Authority (AHPRA)
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in the speciality of General Surgery, or equivalent qualification with Substantially Comparable outcome from the RACS
