The Organisation
You will be working at the main public referral hospital in this region, which provides quality care for a catchment of approximately 250,000 people. The health services offer a comprehensive range of specialist care, including acute and sub-acute care, residential aged care, community care, psychiatric services, dental services and rehabilitation services. There is a new short stay unit and modern, emergency, critical care, ambulatory, aged care and rehabilitation facilities uniquely integrate in-patient, ambulatory, community and home based services.
The Emergency Department has a total of 43 treatment spaces made up of triage area, resuscitation and acute cubicles, minor injury/fast track and a 12 bed short-stay unit. The department sees over 60,000 patients per year with approximately 25% paediatric presentation rate and a growing admission rate of 24-25%. The department has a culture of supervision and support for junior medical staff. This includes proactive training for HMO and Registrar groups, protected weekly training sessions, multi-disciplinary M&M and a responsive positive feedback program. They care for all genders, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, and are open 24-hours-a-day every day of the year.
The Job

Work as an Emergency Medicine Consultant and deliver the best quality care to all patients in the communities by providing safe, accessible and integrated health services resulting in positive experiences and outcomes.

Emergency Medicine Consultants will be responsible for the clinical management of all patients under the practitioners care within the Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit.

You will provide clinical care and supervision of junior medical staff of the Emergency Department and the Short Stay Unit as directed.

Work collaboratively with the ED nursing team and other hospital staff to achieve department key performance indicators to achieve the National Emergency Access Targets .

Consultants must ensure the completion of medical records, assessments, management plans, treatments/procedures undertaken, and summaries of the purpose of communication with other health professionals.

Participate in the on call/out of hours roster of the Emergency Department as required

You are expected to participate in the management and clinical meetings, staff development programs and facilitate quality improvement, audit, and utilisation review activities applicable to Emergency Medicine.

Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent
